Loyal Rogers

Loyal Rogers, age 84, of Ulen, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Innovis/Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Loyal Arlene Slininger was born February 12, 1926 to Harry and Hazel (Hanson) Slininger in Ada, MN. She attended school in Ada, Twin Valley and Minneapolis, graduating from Minneapolis North High School in 1944. Loyal met the love of her life, Earl Rogers, while in Twin Valley. They were united in marriage April 27, 1946 at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in rural Twin Valley. Together they lived and worked in Minneapolis for a short time before moving back to the Twin Valley/Mahnomen area in 1947. In 1960, they moved to Mahnomen where Loyal worked at the Red Owl Store and later at the Mahnomen Creamery while maintaining the books for their Standard Oil Bulk Business and raising three children. Loyal and Earl retired from their business in 1973. They lived at South Twin Lake in the summer and Mesa, AZ during the winter. In 2008, they moved into an apartment in Ulen where she resided until her death. Loyal enjoyed traveling, embroidery and visiting with friends and neighbors. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her determination and her never ending love for family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always took priority in her life. She loved having them visit, stay as long as possible and be sure that they had an abundance of food and fun. Loyal was a member of First Lutheran Church for 50 years and enjoyed Bible studies, women’s groups and worship. She was a faithful servant throughout her life. Loyal is survived by, Earl, her husband of 64 years; two sons, Dr. Jerry (Susan) Rogers of Moorhead, MN and Dean (Kathy) Rogers Mahnomen, MN; one daughter, Jeanine (Barry) Houglum of Ulen, MN; nine grandchildren: Nicole (Jesse) Langerud, East Grand Forks, MN, Tiffany (Jeff) Brenna, Elk River, MN, Alicia (Dane) Carley, Hawley, MN, Cody (Kristin) Houglum, Gilbert, AZ, Chad (Christine) Rogers, Moorhead, MN, Darren Rogers, Moorhead, MN, Kelly (Rocky) Rardon, West Fargo, ND, Christopher (Nicolle) Rogers, Columbus, OH, Melinda (Joseph) Whetham, Salt Lake City, UT and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Elwyn, Myrl, Cecil, Orval and Wesley; two sisters, Faye and Shirley. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen. Visitation will be on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.
